Cactus - No Need To Worry/Parchman Farm (Isle Of Wight Festival 1970)

Cactus was initially conceived in late 1969 by former Vanilla Fudge members bassist Tim Bogert and drummer Carmine Appice after plans to team up with guitarist Jeff Beck were scuppered when Beck had an automobile accident and was out of the music scene for over a year.

In early 1970, Bogert and Appice brought in blues guitarist Jim McCarty from Mitch Ryder's Detroit Wheels and The Buddy Miles Express, and singer Rusty Day (born Russell Edward Davidson) from The Amboy Dukes.

This line-up released three albums on Atco Records, Cactus (1970), One Way... or Another (1971), and Restrictions (1971), before intraband troubles led to McCarty quitting at the end of 1971.

Jim McCarty plays in a heavy blues-rock style that has inspired fledgling guitar players for more than 40 years. In an August 2006 interview on VH1 Classic, Ted Nugent remarked "I'm the only guy in rock'n'roll that plays that hollow body jazz guitar and it's because in 1960 I saw Jimmy McCarty creating those big fat full chords like I do on "Stranglehold"; I learned that from Jimmy McCarty. Remember the name Jimmy McCarty. He is as important as Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry and Les Paul...a god on guitar."

Lyrics

Well it's hard to be lonely Feeling everyone is down on you It's hard to be lonely Feeling everyone is down on you And you find out later on That they care so much for you

And you know it's hard to believe The condition the world is in Yeah it's hard to believe The condition the world is in

Cause you get no way You can't trust nobody And every girl you know is insane

And no need to worry One day things will come your way And no need to worry One day things will come your way

I heard that little baby say it so often Where there's a will, there is a way
